At Alphabet City we have an ethos of 'home from home' and take pride in providing an environment that is inviting, warm, nurturing and inclusive for all children. This secure foundation encourages children to reach their full potential with the support of our practitioners, who utilise a range of theories and educational methods.
Throughout Alphabet City’s teaching and learning, runs the thread of children’s interests. We strongly believe that activities inspired by children and their interests are the best way for them to fully engage in the learning of new skills. Age appropriate opportunities to express self-directed activities, allows for children to learn through trial and error in practical playful ways.
Children engage in hands on experiences within the nursery as well as in nature and the local community, supporting children’s development holistically. Our reactive teaching methods allow practitioners to respond to what children do and need at a particular moment letting practitioners judge when to scaffold learning and provide additional resources to support play. This enables Key Persons to support children’s development promptly at meaningful moments of play.
Practitioners provide environments that offer a mix of open ended resources to ignite curiosity, alongside toys that are familiar from home in order to further develop their experiences. Practitioners scaffold children’s development by building a bridge between a child’s existing knowledge and new knowledge.
Alphabet City operates from two sites in Basingstoke town. Our Highfields Setting, established in 2007 and our Falconhurst Setting, established in 2014. Both settings work hand in hand to provide quality, tailored and holistic childcare for children from 3 months to 4 years old.
